A Video Game in Which You Make Video Games Fights Pirates with Piracy

This looks funny, but the actual game - for $8 - looks like an overpriced stale clone of game dev story.
There's a recent tradition of developers screwing with pirates—from releasing enormous, immortal pink scorpions on them, to booby trapping their games with glitches when they get cracked. This weekend, Greenheart Games, creator of Game Dev Tycoon, just blew the curve for everyone. This is fantastic.

Big Data Gets Bigger: Now Google Trends Can Predict The Market

Neat article here on using data to predict the market.. and it's starting to correlate better.
In this paper we examine Google Trends, which is a a real-time daily and weekly index of the volume of queries that users enter into Google. We have found that these query indices are often correlated with various economic indicators and may be helpful for short-term economic prediction.

Weird News: Brazilian Fisherman Survives Near Fatal Spear Wound, Suffers Minimal Brain Damage

Tough guy over here.
A Brazilian fisherman who accidentally fired a harpoon through his own face survived with minimal brain damage -- and didn't bother to seek medical attention for more than 10 hours.

(Don't) Stand with Rand

Oh Rand.. you had me fooled for a second. Show me the money Lebowski!
After Rand Paul's bold and principled stand against drones being used on Americans on U.S. soil, he declared to Neil Cavuto that he's ok with drones being used on a liquor store robber roaming a neighborhood. http://www.inquisitr.com/632487/rand-...

"I've never argued against any technology being used when you have an imminent threat, an active crime going on," Paul said. "If someone comes out of a liquor store with a weapon and fifty dollars in cash, I don't care if a drone kills him or a policeman kills him."

Cenk Uygur breaks down this incredible flip-flop from Senator Rand Paul. Do you think Rand Paul will be running for President in 2016, tell us in the comment section below.

CISPA - Corporations Buy Politicians and Your Privacy

Disgusting. We really need to add the NASCAR style outfits for our representatives to see their biggest donors.
Activists and Internet users protesting the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act -- a cybersecurity bill that passed the House of Representatives Thursday -- have spun the battle as big business interests versus the privacy of individual citizens. If lobbying dollars are anything to go by, they're right: Pro-CISPA businesses and interests have spent 140 times more money on lobbying than anti-CISPA interests, according to the Sunlight Foundation."*

CISPA passed overwhelmingly in the house, despite its promise to allow corporations and the government access to your private data, completely unchecked. It's no wonder after seeing how much money was poured into lobbying for the invasive bill, and who stands to profit. Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian break it down with Kim Horcher (Nerd Alert).

Woman Who Threw Husband's Penis in Garbage Disposal Beginning Trial

Jokes aside, her smirking/laughing/etc about it and then trying to argue verbal abuse was bothering me, but then Cenk's comment at the end sort of I think brought her to reality.
Heather Locklear has loads of advice on how to look young ... no, it's not Botox, but it does involve a shot to the face.

It's unclear if Heather is talking about a cream product ... or just an ingredient. It's also unclear if she practices what she preaches and if it works.

But judging by her face ... it could be the funnest beauty treatment ever ... at least for guys."*

Heather Locklear says she uses a special regimen to keep her face looking young: semen. Semen allegedly has "antioxidants" but...really? Is there no better way to smooth wrinkles? Cenk Uygur and Gina Grad discuss.

Disgust and Fury Over NRA Killing Background Checks

Some good points from Cenk.
The great-grandson of the Anheuser-Busch company renounced his membership in the National Rifle Association on Thursday, furious that the NRA helped defeat the Senate bill which would have expanded background checks in response to the tragedy in Newtown."*

Republicans in the pocket of the NRA soundly voted down background checks in the Senate, to the anger of many. 91% of Americans support background checks, but conservatives went out of their way to favor the gun manufacturers lobby over the will of the people. What telling words did lifelong member Adolphus Busch IV, heir to the Busch family brewing fortune, say as he resigned the NRA? Cenk Uygur breaks it down.

CNN Busted for Wrong Report on Boston Marathon Arrest

Guys I heard CNN is the pinnacle of news reporting.

CNN on Wednesday backtracked after badly botching a report that a "dark-skinned male" had been arrested in connection with the Monday bombings of the Boston Marathon.

At around 1 p.m. ET, CNN's John King came on the air to say that "law enforcement sources" had told him that a suspect had been identified based on surveillance video taken from a Boston Lord & Taylor department store."*

There was no suspect arrest Wednesday in the Boston Marathon bombing, but CNN reported that not only had police captured a suspect, but that he was a "dark skinned" male. Wolf Blitzer even went on to imply that the suspect in the FALSE, baseless report was foreign. Who faces consequences for CNN's huge mistake made in haste to get the "breaking news scoop?" Cenk Uygur breaks it down.

Republican (does it matter?) Calls Women 'Vaginas'

Ugh. Just the oblivious nature of some people. Funny, sad, annoying, dumb. Let's ignore the fact that it's Republican, Democrat, whatever. If a politician is this out of touch, it's not good for the system.

Oops they did it again? It's another day, another GOP gaffe, another condemnation stemming from all sides of the political spectrum, and yet another sexist remark that makes feminists everywhere want to claw eyes out in frustration."*

New Hampshire state Rep. Peter Hansen referred to women as "vaginas" in an email to his colleagues. Did he apologize for referring to women as only their genitals? Not really, but he's sorry if you "feel" that way. Cenk Uygur and Gina Grad (Pretty Good Podcast) discuss.

CNN Summarizes Reddit AMA About Airline Wisdom

You can still ask to see the cockpit!

CNN posted a summary from a Reddit AMA that culminates in a cool list of things that you may have known (or thought to think of) about flying. Just a few:

  • When taking off and landing at night, lights are turned off in the cabin to allow your eyes to adjust to the darkness. In the event of an evacuation, you’ll be able to see better.
  • “If we’re not going to make it, we’re definitely not going to tell you,” says one flight attendant on the Reddit story. “The last thing we need before we die is a riot.”

Take a look, and you might learn a thing or two. I certainly did.

Link to the Past Sequel coming to Nintendo 3DS

MOTHER OF GOD.

Nintendo will release a new Legend of Zelda game for Nintendo 3DS based on the world of A Link to the Past later this year, the company announced today. A sequel to the Super NES original, the game will feature new mechanics, including the ability for Link to become a 2D drawing and move along walls.
Is this the reason I buy a 3DS? And why am I sweating all of a sudden? Where am I? Why are there unicorns flying past me.. ooo dinosaurs...

Wanted: A Couple Ready to Launch to Mars (Mars One)

This had a lot of funny points to it, and also some interesting thoughts in it - like if a trip to Mars was 501 days long, and if they sent a man and a woman.. and well, if they got it on, and she got pregnant early on the trip.. you'd have birth in zero gravity?

But Cenk saying "global cock tease" was my favorite.

Anyway, I doubt this will end well for a test run, but we'll see..

Mars One, the ambitious (some might say crazy) project that aims to make the red planet's colonization into a successful reality TV show, will begin accepting video submissions for its first batch of astronauts in July. In an attempt to separate serious candidates from dreamers, the company plans to institute an entry fee that will vary depending on your native country. It's reportedly going to top off at $25 though, so hopefuls won't need to take out a second mortgage to plot out their departure from Earth. The mandatory fee is also a means for Mars One to secure funding for the actual trip and Mars colony buildout."*

Inspiration Mars is accepting applications for a couple to take a 501 day trip to Mars and back. Is it safe? Would you want to apply for this possibly deadly trip that won't actually land on the red planet? Cenk Uygur and Dave Rubin discuss.

PINK PARTY - footage from Refresh party

Brief interview in language I don't understand at the front.

Don't know the name of the song - but it definitely brings me back to late 90s early 2000s with the build up pieces, then the break down is more modern. Booty shakin'!

Video behind the cut. (Vimeo likes to autoplay and it's laggier than YouTube)

will.i.am Rips Off Beat/Sample from Proper EDM Artist Without Permission

Oh yeah, and no permission was asked or approved. Open close case. I believe Arty and Mat Zo have filed suit - hopefully they win.

There's a silver lining to this.  The more exposure that pop culture gives to EDM, the easier it will be for the "original artists" and lesser knowns that actually write good quality EDM to break through.

Still, rageworthy theft demonstrated in this video.

Gitmo Defense Lawyers Illegally Bugged and Hacked

It's a nightmarish joke at this point. It's high time to close this place down or at least get some better oversight.

The military justice system at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, which has been dogged by charges of secret monitoring of proceedings and defense communications, became embroiled in a fresh controversy Thursday when it was revealed that hundreds of thousands of defense e-mails were turned over to the prosecution."*

In what is seen as a desperate attempt to keep Guantanamo Bay prisoners in their cells, emails with sensitive information from their defense attorneys were turned over to the prosecution. How else were the prisoners compromised? Cenk Uygur breaks it down.

I checked out this (short) set of MP3s and it's got a couple good ones. Can't really beat free, in any event.

FB Musings

SOCIAL MEDIA

PSY - Gentleman

Guys I heard PSY has a few followers (100 million views in 3 days).

This isn't nearly as good as Gangnam Style, but still fairly amusing.

I think them not dancing at all in the chorus is part of the meta-joke. He's being a jerk the whole video - so what more of a dick move than to get to the chorus, you're waiting for the new goofy dance to beat Gangnam Style, and... nothing. Hip wag. That's it. I wonder how many people will "get it" or just go "shit sux omg u suck". Although I suppose that'll happen no matter what...

The song itself runs this joke too but might not get away with it. What I mean is that you've got this decent beat and riff and you expect it to go somewhere - but it doesn't, really. It changes enough to break the song up, but leaves you hanging. Another dick move, but also the point of the song. Is this enough of an excuse for a song that'd be subpar without that meta joke? I'm not sure.

It's good to see him reusing characters, pulling a trick out of the LMFAO book. It works, and he should keep doing it. On the other hand, some of the repeated jokes from Gangnam Style were good once, and not a second time (under the legs of humpy guys). I particularly thought the elevator bit in this was pretty amusing.

Overall, I think the song is alright, but insanely less catchy than Gangnam Style - to the point that I'm not sure it's catchy at all. I worry that the meta joke will be lost on the masses, but oh well. PSY is at a point where he prints money, so if this one "flops" (it's already at 100 million views for crying out loud), he can put out another one that leans towards catchy again and he'll be back in the game.

tl;dr: 7/10

Did the Condom Ban Ruin the Porn Industry in California?

Yeah, not really a big turn on when there's one used.

Has the porn industry abandoned Los Angeles?

It seems that way, if you consider that the organization that handles permits for movie shoots has only had two requests for adult films this year, according to the Los Angeles Daily News. Compare that to the roughly 500 permit requests that the organization told the news outlet it usually receives every year, and you get an idea of how dramatic the falloff in adult film production has been in Los Angeles."*

In the past November elections, Measure B passed in Los Angeles County, which forced pornstars to wear condoms in their movies. Has that affected how porn is made? Yes, but not how voters expected. Cenk Uygur, John Iadarola (Host, TYT University), and Catie Lazarus (Employee of the Month podcast).

Capitalism.

Boston Marathon Bombing - How We React Right Now Matters

Sad news continued, Young Turks has a piece on it.

"As runners in the Boston Marathon charged over the finish line Monday afternoon, two bomb blasts released orange balls of fire into the air, lifting runners off their feet, killing at least three people, injuring more than 130 others, and driving Boston and the nation once more into the grim work of responding to terror."*

Two explosions at the Boston Marathon has killed 2 people and injured many, and have caused a panic nationwide. We know it was a planned attack. We suspect terrorism. But we have no idea who the perpetrators are and what they represent, but it shouldn't matter whether the attackers were foreign, domestic, conservatives, or liberal-- a culprit is a culprit. As Cenk Uygur explains, we should seek justice, but never lose our senses of rationality.
I hadn't seen that footage, so it's pretty chilling.

Closed-Minded Dad's Surprising Reaction to Gay Son

Cenk said it: "HEART WARMED. WAS COLD. Just went up a few degrees." Glad this went the way it did.

Epic Meal Time - Meat Cake

This is not the meat cake I was thinking of, but I'll allow it.

Back in college years we made our own smaller meat cake. It was still 20 lb.. and it was delicious.

Actually I had a video... after the cut.

This is great.

FB Musings - Road Rager Rant

Tonight I encountered a road rager. I approached (slowly) going down PB, and it was about time to pass them. No traffic in sight, I started my pass, and I'd clear in about 10 seconds at the non-accelerated speed - learning from my mistakes of the past.

Unfortunately, that's when things got dumb.

I noticed I wasn't getting past the car - in fact, they were now pulling away. I'd noticed my speed go slightly up to try and end the traffic situation, but they were speeding to outpace me. Unwilling to drive too fast, I braked, and pulled behind them.

If someone is trying to overcome you in a legal passing zone, it is illegal (in Wisconsin anyway) to speed up - especially over the speed limit - for the sole reason of preventing them from overtaking you.

And, that's exactly what happened. When I returned to the lane, they slowed right back down to their old speed. At this point I probably did something irrational myself; I briefly turned my brights on to express my "wtf" at them - and then the "fun" started. They started braking hard - suddenly we were down to 45mph in a 55. Clearly this person was raging at me, beginning with the speeding up scene.

The other scary thing - I noticed a little girl looking back when I turned my brights on. So this person was road raging with a kid in the car.

When we were down to 45mph, I'd had enough of the games. Since the person was trying to make me tailgate them, I suddenly passed and zoomed past - and we were slow enough that I stayed within the speed limit. Of course, this led to them tailing me hard with their brights on, honking, etc. I had returned to the lane, resuming the speed limit, and hitting cruise control. We approached the stop sign to turn onto 69, and when I was stopped to turn, they were honking all the while.

I drove as normal, now in a brief section of road with a 3 lane road, our side with a passing lane. They sped up and passed me but then immediately slowed down so I was stuck in their blind spot. Not playing the game, I just maintained my speed and laughed at how stupid this person was. Eventually the lanes merged back and they slowed down - as predicted - but I was so done with the idiocy I just dealt with it. We continued like this until I could turn off down Old Madison to go the alternate way home, so I had one last attack of high beams before I turned off.

I wanted to tell the story to get it off my chest, but also that I think I've grown a lot from all the driving incidents and experiences I've had. I was able to control myself and drive rationally (besides the brights.. but I mean come on), while the other driver could not keep themselves under control and even drove at risk with a child in the car. That's what bothered me the most.

Anyway, I'm sure people are going to read this and blame me for something. But whatever. I felt like I did what was right and I believe it, and that's all that matters. And if you have a kid in the car, don't drive like an idiot or road rage, or both.

Boston Marathon Bombing..

Oy vey - thoughts go out to those affected and their families..

Patton Oswalt wrote a good short diatribe on the event:
Boston. Fucking horrible.
I remember, when 9/11 went down, my reaction was, "Well, I've had it with humanity."
But I was wrong. I don't know what's going to be revealed to be behind all of this mayhem. One human insect or a poisonous mass of broken sociopaths.
But here's what I DO know. If it's one person or a HUNDRED people, that number is not even a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of a percent of the population on this planet. You watch the videos of the carnage and there are people running TOWARDS the destruction to help out. (Thanks FAKE Gallery founder and owner Paul Kozlowski for pointing this out to me). This is a giant planet and we're lucky to live on it but there are prices and penalties incurred for the daily miracle of existence. One of them is, every once in awhile, the wiring of a tiny sliver of the species gets snarled and they're pointed towards darkness.
But the vast majority stands against that darkness and, like white blood cells attacking a virus, they dilute and weaken and eventually wash away the evil doers and, more importantly, the damage they wreak. This is beyond religion or creed or nation. We would not be here if humanity were inherently evil. We'd have eaten ourselves alive long ago.
So when you spot violence, or bigotry, or intolerance or fear or just garden-variety misogyny, hatred or ignorance, just look it in the eye and think, "The good outnumber you, and we always will."

I agree - but let me go further and maybe in the other direction. This is a rash on Boston's history, and in no way is it not intolerable. But think - lots of people die each day in the city of Boston, and where is the outrage then? Where is the attention? Should we be as attentive to "lesser disasters"? Maybe if we are, we allow ourselves to become complacent to them, maybe even more so than now.

A complex problem that will likely take a banded effort to resolve.

Ben Garrison wrote on Google+, as inspiration for my thought:

75 people died today in the Boston metro area.  And yesterday.  And the day before that.  And the day before that.  The explosion today wouldn't even be noticeable on a graph.

That's not to suggest that the right response is to be calloused to bad things happening, but it's extremely important to have that perspective if you're thinking about how to fix those bad things (and if fixing them is worth the opportunity cost).

...in fact, what I want to really encourage you to remember is that horrible things are happening around the world on a continual basis - so continual that they're not considered newsworthy.  But the continual horrible things that aren't newsworthy tend to be the things that are much easier to fix - like child mortality from malnutrition, preventable diseases spread because of lack of access to clean water.

So if you take some time to mourn something tragic today, maybe also take the time to mourn the 20,000 children who will die today (and tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day) because of easily fixable problems...and maybe think about what you can do about it.

Food for thought.

Above & Beyond - Walter White (Original Mix)

Love me some Breaking Bad references and the song isn't bad either.

Teacher Quits - 'Legislators Sold Children Out'

"When Gerald "Jerry" Conti decided to retire from his teaching career after 27 years at Westhill High School in New York, he went out with a bang. On March 29, Conti, 62, posted the text of his resignation letter on Facebook, along with a photo of Porky Pig saying "That's All Folks!"* A teacher resigned with letter saying his profession...no longer exists. GOP Rep: Bible's Great Flood Disproves Climate Change

"Rep. Joe Barton (R-Texas) turned to the Bible on Wednesday during a congressional hearing, using the Great Flood to support his claim that climate change isn't man-made, BuzzFeed Politics reported. A married man in South Carolina was caught with a prostitute who he bought crack for by pawning his wedding ring...for $20. Is this the kind of marriage same-sex marriage would "ruin?" Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian discuss. *Read more from Gawker: http://gawker.com/5994096/married-man-pawns-wedding-ring-to-pay-for-prostitute

Do Kids Trivialize the Word "Rape?"

Rehtaeh Parson and Audrie Pott were two teenage girls who committed suicide in separate incidents after pictures of their rapes became viral and they were mercilessly bullied by their peers. It may seem unthinkable that kids would use something as traumatic and devastating as rape to "slut shame," bully, and harass another teenager, but it obviously does happen. How did teen rape culture come about, and how could rape be treated so trivially? Cenk hypothesizes that a small portion of the blame could be due to kids casually throwing around "rape" as a verb to not mean a sexual assault, but as some form of "owning" someone, or badly beating them, say, in a video game. Is that true? Cenk Uygur, Ana Kasparian, and Ben Mankiewicz are joined by John Iadarola (TYT University) and Kim Horcher (Nerd Alert) to discuss.

For-Profit Prisons Admit Lying to Get Taxpayer Money

"A private company that operates Idaho's largest prison acknowledged Thursday that its employees falsified nearly 4,800 hours of staffing records over seven months last year in violation of its contract with the state. The admission by Nashville, Tenn.-based Corrections Corporation of America is the latest in a string of staffing problems alleged or being investigated at the Idaho Correctional Center south of Boise."* For-profit, private prisons are marketed as a way for states to save money, but what about when they often go out of their way to support unnecessary imprisonment? What about when they're [often] proven to be corrupt? Now, Corrections Corporation of America has admitted to falsifying employee records to get more taxpayer money from states. Cenk Uygur, Ana Kasparian, and Ben Mankiewicz discuss this and other corruption in the private prison system. *Read more from Huffington Post: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/11/corrections-corporation-of-america-private-prison_n_3064795.html

Handle It - Bacon Wrapped Jalapeno Poppers

These videos are pretty dumbed down, eh? (see I'm pretending I'm Canadian)

What Audrie Pott's Death Says About Teen Rape Culture

"Authorities arrested three 16-year-old boys Thursday on charges that they sexually assaulted a 15-year-old who killed herself eight days after the attack. A family attorney said Audrie Pott was humiliated by online photos of the assault and posted on Facebook that her life was ruined, "worst day ever," and hanged herself."* Audrie Pott, 15, committed suicide after being bullied after photos of her rape were circulated around her peers. The very same thing happened to Rehtaeh Parsons, also 15. Are these deaths because of a slut-shaming rape culture among teens? Is it "cool" to brag and take pictures of girls being horrifyingly raped? Is there a double standard? Cenk Uygur, Ana Kasparian, and Ben Mankiewicz (Host, Turner Classic Movies) discuss. *Read more from CBS News: http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-504083_162-57579263-504083/audrie-pott-suicide-three-teens-arrested-for-alleged-sexual-assault-of-calif-girl-who-committed-suicide/

Catholic League Leader OWNED On Gay Hypocrisy

"Catholic League President Bill Donohue defended his opposition to gay marriage on Current TV on Thursday by claiming the "whole purpose of marriage is to have a family" and marriage was "not about love" or "making people happy."* Bill Donohue, President of The Catholic League may need to study up on the Bible. Or read it at all. In a hilarious interview with Viewpoint's John Fugelsang, Donohue shows a massive misunderstanding of marriage, the "purpose" of marriage, what's in the Bible, and what Jesus had to say about consensual gay sex. Cenk Uygur and Ben Mankiewicz break down the unbelievable interview. *Read more from Mediaite: http://www.opposingviews.com/i/religion/christianity/catholicism/catholic-league-president-bill-donohue-says-marriage-not

Koch Brother Fights...For Expensive Wine?

"A federal jury in New York on Friday awarded $12 million in punitive damages to U.S. billionaire William Koch in his dispute over the alleged misrepresentation of 24 bottles of wine he bought at auction."* Bill Koch, brother to the oil industrialists/ environment destroying Koch brothers, is fighting for a cause he really believes in...fake vintage wine. He won millions of dollars, but also had a legal bill in the millions. Rich people problems? Cenk Uygur and Ben Mankiewicz (Host, Turner Classic Movies) break it down. *Read more from Reuters: http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/04/12/us-usa-court-wine-idUSBRE93B11C20130412

Muslim Prayer is Terrorism, Says State Lawmaker

"North Carolina Republican state Rep. Michele Presnell, who co-sponsored the state's proposal to allow an official state religion, was asked about her thoughts about Islamic prayer before state legislative meetings by a constituent. Presnell responded by equating the religion with terrorism, according to a report by the News & Observer."* Recently, North Carolina lawmakers expressed interest in having an official state religion. This is obviously problematic, so when questioned about whether Muslim prayer would be allowed too, Republican state Rep. Michele Presnell responded with epic ignorance. Cenk Uygur and Ben Mankiewicz (Host, Turner Classic Movies) break it down. *Read more from Mediaite: http://www.mediaite.com/online/north-carolina-lawmaker-equates-islamic-prayer-with-terrorism%E2%80%A6-then-cites-need-for-religious-freedom/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+seriouslymedia+%28Media%29

Orthodox Jew Plastic Bag Photo Going Viral

"An Orthodox Jewish plane passenger was seen wrapped in a plastic bag during a flight. It was believed the man is a Kohein, a religious descendant of the priests of ancient Israel, who are banned from flying over cemeteries. Fellow passengers strained to see the unusual sight and took pictures"* Cenk Uygur, Ben Mankiewicz, and Ana Kasparian break it down on The Young Turks. *Read more from Nina Golgowski and Janine Yaqoob at The Daily Mail: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2307713/Pictured-Orthodox-Jewish-man-covers-PLASTIC-BAG-flight.html

Elizabeth Warren Rips Foreclosure Regulators

"Two prominent Democratic senators levied a withering attack on federal bank regulators on Thursday, accusing them at a Senate hearing of putting the interests of banks ahead of consumers in refusing to disclose what they know about the failed foreclosure review program that ended abruptly earlier this year... Most aggressive was Sen. Elizabeth Warren, a Massachusetts Democrat and longtime consumer advocate who is quickly developing a reputation as perhaps the Senate's most effective cross-examiner."* Cenk Uygur and Ben Mankiewicz break it down on The Young Turks. *Read more at from Ben Hallman at The Huffington Post: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/11/foreclosure-review-program-warren-brown_n_3062126.html

Bras Bad For Boobs?

"In a 15-year study from the University of Besançon in eastern France, sports science professor Jean-Denis Rouillon found that wearing a bra may not actually keep a woman's breasts from sagging, nor alleviate back pain... Since 1997, Rouillon and his team have been measuring the incremental changes in orientation of the breasts of 330 female volunteers using a slide rule and caliper. "* Cenk Uygur, Ben Mankiewicz and Ana Kasparian break it down on The Young Turks. The Legacy of Roger Ebert

Roger Ebert passed away, leaving behind a distinct legacy to film, as well as an artful, accessible, and meaningful style of analysis and commentary. Ben Mankiewicz (host of Turner Classic Movies), Alonso Duralde (TheWrap.com and Linoleum Knife podcast), and Christy Lemire (AP critic) discuss what it meant to them to have known Roger Ebert as a colleague and a legend.

Catholic Teen Expelled For Topless Pic

"A 16-year-old student says she was forced to withdraw from her prestigious Catholic prep school after texting a topless photo to two of the school's star athletes, who shared it with the entire lacrosse team but received no punishment. Instead of using the incident as a teachable moment for both male and female students about trust and social media, the administration sent a clear message: girls are ungodly creatures who tempt boys into sin."* Cenk Uygur, Ben Mankiewicz and Ana Kasparian break it down on The Young Turks. *Read more from Katie JM Baker at Jezebel: http://jezebel.com/girl-sends-sext-gets-kicked-out-of-school-lacrosse-pl-471285308

EA Voted Worst Company in America Again

"A Consumerist readers' poll of the "worst companies" has awarded Electronic Arts a "Golden Poo" for the second year in a row. The video game maker, whose botched release of "SimCity" recently drew intense criticism from users, earned nearly 78 percent of readers' votes, faring far worse than runner-up Bank of America."* A consumerist reader's poll has named EA the worst company in America. What did Electronic Arts do that made them more detested than even Bank of America and AT&T? Ana Kasparian and Dave Rubin (Rubin Report) discuss along with Kim Horcher (Nerd Alert). *Read more from Huffington Post: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/10/electronic-arts-worst-company-consumerist_n_3052000.html
