Texas Mass Stabbing Winess: I'm Glad it Wasn't Guns
"As Mediaite's Noah Rothman predicted yesterday, it didn't take long for the horrific mass stabbing incident yesterday at Lone Star Community College campus in Cypress, Texas to find its way into the gun control debate. Today on Fox News, Megyn Kelly interviewed one of the students who tackled the assailant and subdued him so police could bring him into custody. Towards the end of the interview, Stephen Maida explained why he doesn't think guns would have improved the situation on campus."* Stephen Maida was one of the students who was able to tackle and subdue a college student gone on a stabbing spree at Lone star Community College in Cypress, Texas. When Fox News asked him how he felt about concealed weapons on college campuses, he answered that he was grateful that the assailant didn't have a gun. So far, none of the stabbed victims have died of their wounds. The suit alleges that in-office gender segregation, and the firm's no-fraternization policy that prohibited socializing outside of work, prevented women from being promoted at the same rate as their male colleagues."* A lawyer in Texas says a rule in her workplace forbidding office dating is so strict that she and her male colleagues are effectively segregated, and she's missing out on opportunities the male workers aren't. "Momentum grew for Senate passage of gun legislation when a bipartisan group of senators on Wednesday announced agreement on deals to expand background checks and tighten laws against gun trafficking. The first breakthrough came in a deal on background checks announced by Sens. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), who agreed on an amendment that would exempt all "personal" transfers of weapons between individuals, but would close the infamous gun show loophole and also require background checks on Internet sales."* There's a background check bill that looks like it will barely pass, but is it enough to curb guns getting into the hands of potentially dangerous people? "A Canadian drug distributor has issued an urgent recall for Alysena-28 birth control pills. Apotex says one batch of the Alysena-28 may contain two weeks of placebo sugar pills instead of one, adding the error can reduce the effectiveness of the pills and raises the possibility of unplanned pregnancy."* A batch of bad birth control packs was released to the public- the packs had 2 weeks of placebo pills instead of just one. As part of that campaign, Fox News contributors implied that the media was ignoring Winter's story because she worked for Fox News. The steady drumbeat eventually produced results and the media's silence on Winter's case is today well and truly broken.
